DC sightseeing adventures!

We went to DC this weekend for the White House Easter Egg Roll. My Uncle Dave works for the budget office and was able to get tickets for us to attend. It truly was a very exciting (and tiring) weekend for our family! (SEE NEXT BLOG FOR INFO ON THE EVENT)

We decided to drive to save money which meant 18 hours in the car round trip. We left Saturday morning at about 5 am. It was a LONG day! That evening, we visited my Uncle Dave and Aunt Carol for dinner. Claire was a little kookoo from being up so early and staying up so late, but she made it!

Sunday, my uncle volunteered to take us to the Zoo and to go sightseeing. The orangutans was our favorite exhibit. They have lines set up for them to walk across up in the air. They literally are climbing right above you! The pandas were having a pretty lazy day and we didn't get a chance to see them up close. I don't blame them, I would nap as much as I could if I were a Panda Bear!

We then headed on the "choo-choo" which was Claire's favorite part of the trip. It was a grand adventure trying to find our way around the Metro! My uncle is skilled in the art of Metro-hopping but wasn't used to having to find all of the handicap accesses since we had a stroller! It was fun to watch Claire try to catch the attention of the people on the train. She is used to having people make eye contact with her and tell her how cute she was. All of the people on the train were making it a point to not make eye contact with anyone! I think this frustrated Claire a bit! Here is Claire enjoying the train:

Next stop was the Smithsonian Mall to visit all of the memorials. We saw most of the monuments and memorials including: Washington Monument, Jefferson Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, World War II Memorial and the Korean War Memorial. We did a lot of walking that day and were pretty exhausted by the end of the day. We concluded that DC is really a beautiful city and that if we ever get orders there, it wouldn't be such a bad thing!
