White House Easter Egg Roll

So Monday was the big day! We got up early and got on the train without any troubles (thank goodness)! Claire wore a pretty dress and new white shoes. They were her first pair of shoes that had a heel, very cute!

The event is held on the South Lawn. We had to go through security before going in. My favorite part was when they patted Claire down when she was sitting in her stroller. She was looking at them like "why are you all in my stroller". Once we walked in, we were swarmed by kids and by large children's characters. The Jonas Brothers sang the National Anthem. The President came out with the First lady and they greeted everyone from their "porch". This was a treat because usually only the First Lady attends. Claire was very bored listening to the speech. She wanted to go and visit with all the characters. I am sure she will look back years from now in her adult life and laugh at the fact that she was so close to the President of the United States and couldn't have cared less! Jenna and Barbara Bush were also on hand to be story readers as well as Troy Aikman.

The main purpose of the event is for the kids to participate in the Egg Roll where kids race to roll an egg across the lawn. It would have been fun for Claire to participate in this but the line was really long. She wouldn't have made it very long standing still in line. But she really enjoyed going around and getting her picture taken with all of characters. She thought the big hands of all the characters were very interesting. She wanted to hold all of their hands. The look on her face when she would see these characters was just priceless! There were some other activities including an egg dyeing table and an egg hunt.

It was a really great experience to be able to attend the event. It's not everyday you get to hang out in George's backyard. Claire seemed to be on her best behavior and was extra adorable! But after about an hour or so, Claire started to get tired and/or hungry. We wanted to stay longer, but we knew we would just be torturing ourselves to stay with a toddler who is on the brink of a meltdown. Five minutes after leaving the event, she was fast asleep in the stroller!
